A native of East Texas, Dr. Powers grew up in a small town and understands the value of hard work and the importance of close relationships. He is the first in his immediate family to become a physician. Having family roots in Louisiana, he grew up an avid LSU fan, which led him to pursue his undergraduate education in Biology and Business Administration at Louisiana State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He then attended medical school at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. During that time, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and was awarded the Alec King Orthopaedic Award as the top orthopaedic applicant in his class. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Training at the state’s only level 1 trauma center and tertiary referral system, he treated a high volume of complex pathology. During his residency, he participated in and helped to publish research studies analyzing arthroplasty techniques. He also served as the residency delegate to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. After his residency, he completed a fellowship specializing in hip and knee reconstruction/replacements at Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center. He has extensive training in all areas of orthopaedics and is eager to help patients of all ages and ailments.
Dr. Powers strongly believes in personal connection and trust. He aims to provide evidence-based, up-to-date orthopaedic care in a manner that makes patients feel comfortable and respected. He specializes in anterior hip replacements, robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacements, and revision hip and knee replacements. His passion in medicine is providing patients with solutions and treatments that improve their quality of life, whether in the clinic or the operating room. He and his team are dedicated to providing a personalized experience and guidance throughout every step of the process.
Although he has ties to LSU, Dr. Powers has an appreciation for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and is not afraid to don maroon and white. He and his wife, Dr. Colleen Powers (Dermatology), are excited to be members of the Golden Triangle community. She has transitioned her practice to the area as well. When not working, he enjoys hunting and fishing, cooking, running, and spending time with their chocolate lab, Burreaux. Dr. Powers is accepting new patients and is thrilled to be part of the Columbus Orthopaedic team.
