Alena A. Groves, DNP, CFNP, ONP-C
Prior to obtaining her Master’s Degree and Nurse Practitioner certification, Alena worked as a registered nurse for 15 years. Working in an internal medicine clinic, she primarily cared for elderly patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems. She was inspired to join the orthopaedics field so she could offer these patients the type of personalized care they deserved. She specializes in osteoporosis management and has had the honor of being the Columbus Orthopaedic National Speaker on osteoporosis and osteoporosis related fractures for 8 years.
There is no such thing as “just arthritis”. Every patient has a different story and each is unique and deserves care that is centered around them. Alena understands the pain and stress that her patients endure due to her own personal experience with neck and back nerve pain. After a year of severe nerve pain in her left arm and trying numerous treatments, she met with Dr. Edwards and underwent spine surgery for a bad disc in her neck. She has also cared for aging family members with severe arthritis and witnessed her mother undergo total shoulder replacement surgery after suffering from chronic pain half of her life. Alena uses her personal experiences to empathize with her patients from both the patient and caregiver perspectives.
Alena’s passion for education and dedication to her role as a health care provider does not stop in the clinic. She also teaches future nurse practitioners at the Mississippi University for Women.
At home, Alena enjoys family board game nights, Mississippi State and New Orleans Saints football and listening to early jazz and blues musicians.
