Today’s Physical Therapist spotlight is on Matt Lawalin, DPT. Matt is a board-certified Doctor of Physical Therapy. His patient care philosophy is “Exercise/Movement is Medicine”. He recently had a patient that was unable to leave her bed post-Covid. During Matt’s initial evaluation, the patient was extremely weak and scared to stand. After 4-5 weeks of daily therapy sessions, she was able to walk and ring the discharge bell!
Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree from Mississippi State University and he completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The University of Mississippi Medical Center. He became interested in physical therapy because he wanted a job that allowed him to make an impact in people’s daily lives. Each day he strives to build personal relationships throughout the patient recovery process. After experiencing his own ACL tear and reconstruction surgery, he is able to use his personal recovery experience to deeply understand his patient’s recovery.
